Life Coaching Frequently Asked Questions
You may have a few questions about coaching, how it works and whether it could be right for you. Here are some of the questions I’m asked most often, along with a little more about what you can expect when we work together.
Life coaching is a supportive, forward-focused process that helps you gain clarity about what you want, understand what might be holding you back, and take positive steps towards the life you want to create.
You can bring almost anything that matters to you. You might be feeling stuck, facing a period of change, struggling to find balance, questioning what you really want, or simply feeling that something needs to shift. Coaching gives you the space to explore what matters and work out what your next steps could be.
You don’t need to have everything figured out before you start. If you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, uncertain or simply know that you want something to change, coaching could give you the space and support to work out what that change might look like.
Coaching tends to focus on where you are now, where you want to go and what you can do to move forward. Counselling often focuses more on processing and understanding difficulties from the past. Coaching isn’t a replacement for counselling or therapy, and if I feel another type of support would be more appropriate for you, I’ll always be honest about that.
Our sessions are a chance to pause, talk things through and focus on what matters to you. I’ll listen, ask questions, challenge your thinking when appropriate and help you explore different perspectives. We’ll work together to identify practical steps that feel realistic and right for you.
There’s no set number of sessions. Everyone is different, and it depends on what you’d like to achieve. Some people find a few focused sessions helpful, while others prefer ongoing support over a longer period. We’ll regularly review how things are going so that you’re getting what you need from our work together.
That’s absolutely fine. In fact, that’s often where coaching can be most helpful. You don’t need to arrive with a perfectly formed goal or a five-year plan. We can start with what’s happening for you now and gently explore what you want, what matters to you and what might need to change.
No. I’m not here to tell you how to live your life or make decisions for you. I’ll help you ask the right questions, look at things from different perspectives and work out what feels right for you. You’re the expert in your own life.
Yes. Our conversations are private and confidential, within the normal professional and safeguarding boundaries of coaching. Having a safe, supportive space where you can speak openly is an important part of the coaching relationship.
The best place to start is with a conversation. You can tell me a little about what’s going on for you, what you’d like support with and what you’re hoping to get from coaching. There’s no pressure to have all the answers – we can start there and see whether working together feels like the right fit.

A calm, confidential opportunity to talk about where you are, what’s getting in the way and how I might help you make space for what matters.
